This history of immigration in America is marked with discrimination, struggle, and for some opportunity. The United States has diversified many of the ways an immigrant can come to the United States and how they earn citizenship. The way many Americans feel towards immigration today is still based on similar emotions and sentiments that were common during the country’s history. The Mexican and American border is currently a major topic of immigration in present-day America.
A Mexican American man describes a scene that he witnessed near the border, “An officer started running after him. He caught up with him, and what I saw was really something. He beat him up completely. I could hear the Mexican yelling and yelling for the agent to stop beating him up [1]".
